Installing on Linux
x64 builds ship as AppImage, .deb, and .rpm. Pick based on how you want updates to work.
Which package?
| Package | Best for | Updates |
|---|---|---|
| AppImage | Any distribution | In-app auto-update supported |
| .deb | Debian, Ubuntu, Mint | Manual — download and reinstall |
| .rpm | Fedora, openSUSE | Manual — download and reinstall |
AppImage
chmod +x speakeasy-im-*-linux-x64.AppImage
./speakeasy-im-*-linux-x64.AppImage
The AppImage build supports in-app updates: the client notifies you when a new version is available and can replace itself after you confirm.
.deb (Debian/Ubuntu)
sudo apt install ./speakeasy-im-*-linux-x64.deb
.rpm (Fedora/openSUSE)
sudo dnf install ./speakeasy-im-*-linux-x64.rpm
For .deb and .rpm installs, the client will tell you when a new version exists, but installing it is manual: download the new package from the download section and install it the same way. You can verify any download against the published SHA-256 hashes with sha256sum.
After installing
Add a server and sign in. If you plan to use global push-to-talk or screen sharing, read those pages — both have Linux-specific notes (input-device permissions, Wayland vs X11).
Troubleshooting
Logs live under ~/.config/speakeasy-im/logs/, with startup diagnostics at ~/.config/speakeasy-im/startup-diag.txt. See the troubleshooting guide for common issues (audio devices, Wayland screen share, missing libraries).
